Aurélien Stirnemann

A biology lecturer at the University of Strasbourg, Aurélien Stirnemann received his academic training in Paris, studying biology and then specializing in the study of environmental toxins. After several internships focusing on agronomic issues, he went to Montreal to further his scientific knowledge, particularly in ecology.

Teaching has always been a part of his life, as it was his livelihood throughout his studies through private tutoring for middle and high school students. However, it was in Montreal that university teaching gave him a new perspective on pedagogy. He was then captivated by a new passion: educational sciences, and left behind his academic research in biology. Enthusiastic about this newfound passion, he pursued a graduate program in educational sciences in Canada. The development of autonomy and active learning became his two main focuses, areas in which he enjoys innovating in his classrooms. In this regard, he has had the opportunity to implement several project-based and problem-based approaches in various university courses. In parallel, he continues to work with young children and teenagers as a counselor in summer camps that combine science and mountain activities.

After six years of teaching at university, Aurélien gained solid experience, but he also realized the significant institutional barriers to implementing new learning methods. It was then that he decided to embark on the HolplaBoum adventure, dreaming of finally being able to participate in developing a school program that fosters autonomy, respects each child's pace, encourages creativity, and is based on active learning pedagogies.
